Four friends, one dream–skateboarding around the world making friends and filming. Good boards, friendship and meaningful life, this is the foundation of it all.
Back in 2017, four friends Hara Masatoshi, Caio Assef, Eduardo Vieira, and Luiz Flavio — were out filming street skating in northwest Melbourne, Victoria. You know how it is for us skateboarders, when filming a part, it’s always smart to have a backup board that matches the one you’re skating perfectly. We got tired of the hit-or-miss quality at the shops, ending up buying four identical boards each trip just to keep things consistent.
Then, one fine day, Luiz came up with the name “free-jazz” and designed up a three-piece artwork for our very first batch of boards. We rolled out our first batch alongside a video we called “Honesty,” spotlighting our adventures and sessions in São Paulo, Melbourne, and Tokyo—and even premiered it in those cities the same year.
As we shredded the boards and the video gained traction, people started asking where they could snag some of our gear. The demand grew and before we knew it, our friends were requesting tees and hoodies. Just like that, free-jazz skate co was born—out of a pure love for the skate culture and a desire to keep our crew equipped with the best.
